Crocodile Dundee Costume Ideas

The story of the popular 80s Crocodile Dundee film series is that of many classic 80s films -- a fish out of water main character who is struggling to succeed while falling in love. The classic plot and great one-liners assured this Australian film would be a big hit. The main character, Mick Dundee, is as colorful and interesting as any in film in the 1980s, and luckily for Halloween costume seekers, his "look" is really unique. Even an average Crocodile Dundee costume (if it is made up of the right pieces) will be recognizable as the character Mick Dundee.

Crocodile Dundee Costume IdeasA basic Mick Dundee costume should have five parts. A dark brown Australian outback hat crowned with crocodile teeth (either made of leather or made to look like leather), a necklace with "crocodile teeth" hanging from it, a crocodile alligator or snake skin looking vest, worn out denim jeans, and a large fake Outback Bowie knife. Dundee wears the vest without a shirt underneath, and he wears boots most of the time, though boots aren't absolutely necessary to the costume.

You can add any number of "outback accessories" to make this costume more realistic, but Mick Dundee is a pretty simple guy and "accessories" are not really his thing. If you want, you can look for a toy crocodile or (even better) an inflatable version that you could carry with you. The best accessory for a good Crocodile Dundee costume is a friend willing to dress up as a crocodile. You can buy or rent good crocodile costumes all over the place, and having an actual crocodile next to your version of Mick Dundee could help people recognize the character.

There aren't any recognizable characters for costumes from Crocodile Dundee outside of Mick Dundee -- the bushman Walter (played by Aussie actor John Meillon) wears a really specific costume, but isn't enough of a feature in the film to be a good Halloween costume.

If you're looking for a couples costume from Crocodile Dundee, consider the "crocodile and Mick" combination mentioned above. The film's female lead Sue Charlton doesn't wear an outrageous costume or really anything memorable at all, so your best bet would be to avoid trying to replicate her look in a costume.
